The former ‘Alice in Wonderland’ author requires $ 2.17 million – where he withdrew his miraculous inspiration from a neighboring cathedral

Get a kick down the rabbit hole for the colorful history of this property.

Former Author’s “Alice in Wonderland” Lewis Carroll – Charles Lutwidge Dodgson’s pen name – is on sale for $ 2.17 million. The North Yorkshire settlement was the home of Carroll’s father’s father, a church official at the nearby Ripon Cathedral.

The sale, listed by Savills, was first reported by the BBC. The Dodgon reported that the Dodgson family spent three months abroad living home during the 1850s. A new Carroll was forced to spend his school vacation from Oxford’s prestigious University there.

The settlement of the Georgia era, called RIP Old Hall, was built in the early 1700s and was updated in the mid -1800s. The miraculous interior of its neighbor next door, the Ripon Cathedral, were quoted as an early inspiration for the history of Carroll’s children in 1865, “Alice in Wonderland”.

The house itself is filled with attractive details, including the complex plaster works and hand -carved mill works.

The first floor includes three waiting rooms, a modern kitchen, a official dining room and a study, in the rankings. The two upper floors consist of five bedrooms and three bathrooms.

Characteristics of the period across the home include raised wood boards, marble floors, and caskets. Original house oak stairs are decorated with carved leaf garlands, and one of the bedrooms above contains Greek -style columns, inside the wall boards.

The most hit, perhaps, is the ceiling of the Upper Hall, which describes in the vivid color of Paris’s judgment, a scene from Greek mythology.

While Ripon Old Hall boasts beautiful architectural details, it is the nearby cathedral, where the new author is likely to attract his inspiration.

Complicated wooden engraving across the Cathedral Ripon bear cleanses the fantastic characters of Carroll, including a golden queen on red beam and a headless cat with her tongue. Somewhere else, a mythical glutton follows a rabbit under a hole.

“The sale of the old hall is a rare opportunity to own a part of history,” said Ed Stoyle, director and at Savills in York, in a state divided by The Post.

Stoyle added that the 18th century house offers “a window in the architecture of changing the last 300 years”.

The $ 2.17 million ranking also comes with a special studio apartment, to be achieved through a private entry. The space includes its own kitchen, the bedroom and a bathroom.

Property boasts walls with walls, including a “morning garden” position to grab the morning sun, or maybe expect a crazy tea holiday.
