Despite the pleasure of the mayor in the purchase, some residents raised their doubts about the project.

In recent years, Dolton has fought after losing production work.

One resident, Mary Avent, calls into question the Board’s decision to buy the property and how they will pay for its maintenance.

She said: “Buying the Pope’s residence is admirable, but with the state we are now, so we have money? And even if we do, there is something called maintenance.

“In my opinion, a house is a pimp because it requires before every day.”

Other residents raised issues with the financing of the city’s underlying infrastructure, including sewers, shops and roads.

Rev. Ryan Reese said: “We must be aware of the issues of the city.

“You have a difficult situation to detect community finances. Basically you are driving on gravel now.”

The hope of the mayor is that the Pope’s previous home will cause a revival for Dolton.

And some board members are saying that the house is already stirring more interest in the city.

Trust Edward Steve said: “If you ever see traffic there, the constant loads inside and outside our city, this is a great opportunity for us.

“That’s a historical thing.”
